DISINFO: West is using Ukrainians to fight Russia in Ukraine

SUMMARY

The US and Europe use the Ukrainian armed forces in their confrontation with Moscow to advance their own political interests. Weakening, destruction, and then dismemberment of Russia according to the Yugoslav scenario with the further withdrawal of nuclear weapons is an extremely dangerous scenario. Of course, under these conditions, NATO will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. There is a fight between Russia and NATO in Ukraine.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of aggravating the situation in Ukraine and undermining Ukrainian statehood. Тhe statement was made in the context of the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine.

There are no reasons to claim that the US or Europe want a conflict between NATO and Russia. NATO is a defensive alliance, whose purpose is to protect its member states. The alliance does not attempt to contain Russia, even more so, to wage war with Russia.

Ukraine is not being used by any foreign government or organisation. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014 culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.

The West supports Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
