The question of the conflict within Ukraine cannot be discussed [with Russia] since Russia is not a party to the conflict. Nothing has changed in this sense.
West failed in peaceful dialogue with Minsk. Lithuania and the US put pressure on Belarus showing the world their double standards.
It is wrong to accuse Belarus of the migrant crisis on the Eastern border of the EU. The responsibility for it, first of all, should take the US. It is because of the US military interventions and bombings that millions of people were forced to seek asylum abroad.
Talks with Belarus are possible only in conditions of mutual respect and equality. It is time for the West to finally understand this, no matter how sick its brain is.
The narrative mixes a few messages including disinformation about the migration crisis on the border of Belarus with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, as well as the accusation of the West of the aggressive behaviour toward other countries.
The claims the West was involved in unfriendly actions towards Belarus or that it has some aggressive geopolitical plans or contempt for the sovereignty of this country are unfounded. The West continues to support the Belarusian people, respects the principles of international law and does not intervene in the domestic affairs of any country.
Western countries have no plans to harm the independence or sovereignty of Belarus but have to react to events in Belarus. The EU did not recognise the falsified results of the Belarusian Presidential election on 9 August 2020 and, respectively, the new mandate claimed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka. On 19 August 2020, the European Council called the Belarus elections neither free nor fair and on 2 October 2020, the Council imposed restrictive measures against 40 individuals identified as responsible for repression and intimidation against peaceful demonstrators, opposition members, and journalists, as well as for misconduct of the electoral process.
The EU imposed new restrictive measures against the Belarusian regime to respond to the escalation of serious human rights violations in Belarus and the violent repression of civil society, democratic opposition and journalists, as well as to the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk on 23 May 2021 and the related detention of journalist Raman Pratasevich and Sofia Sapega.
The goal of the fourth package of sanctions is to put pressure on the Belarusian political leadership to initiate a genuine and inclusive national dialogue with broader society and to avoid further repression.
However, the EU continues to support the Belarusian people and civil society and outlined a 3 billion EUR economic support package to a future democratic Belarus.
There is plenty of evidence that the Belarusian authorities have instigated the ongoing migration crisis in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia. Lukashenka's regime is using migrants from the Middle East as "political and hybrid" tools against Lithuania and the entire EU. Commissioner Ylva Johansson said, inter alia: "The authoritarian regime in Belarus is exploiting human beings for political reasons: this is completely unacceptable."
In 2021, Lithuania, Poland and Latvia faced an influx of irregular migrants from Belarus. Earlier, Belarus had ended cooperation with the EU to stem illegal migration. This was Lukashenka's answer to the European Union sanctions on the political regime of Belarus (read more about sanctions here).
Several investigative journalists (here) and (here) have proven that some migrants arrive in Belarus by commercial flights from Baghdad to Minsk. Information gathered also suggests that migrants are regularly transported by bus to the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. More information about Lukashenka's role in the organisation of the current migration crisis can be found here and here.
