DISINFO: West stokes Russophobia to distract citizens from their own poverty

SUMMARY

The West is stoking Russophobia in order to distract its citizens from the socioeconomic collapse currently under way in Western countries. European society is being conditioned to accept its hardships and sacrifices in the name of Russophobia, with the aim of inflicting maximum harm on Russia and convincing Europeans that Moscow is to blame for all their ills.

RESPONSE

The claim advances a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative concerning the supposed ongoing collapse of the West resulting from its Russophobic attitudes and policies.

Although it is difficult to assess the level of a country's social and economic well-being, there are several initiatives designed to measure various aspects of domestic prosperity, based on objective indicators.

For instance, the latest edition of the Human Development Index has 13 EU member states occupying the top 20 spots of the global ranking, with Russia coming in at the 52nd place. EU states also top Numbeo's Quality of Life Index, where Russia is ranked 67th in areas such as purchasing power, crime, healthcare, and pollution. Finally, Russia is ranked 59th in the Social Progress Index, behind every single EU member state.
