Disinfo: Western special services involved in Kazakhstan protests

Summary

The degree of organisational, logistical and operational coordination of the protesters indicates that there is a high probability foreign funds were used and Western special services were involved.

Disproof

There is no evidence to support claims about a foreign interference in the unrest in Kazakhstan. Instead, growing evidence points to an ongoing power struggle in the country as a driving cause in the radicalisation and expansion of the protests, which started peacefully after the government lifted price controls on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), in an already volatile context in the country.

This claim is advanced as part of a push suggesting a US policy of staging “colour revolutions” worldwide with the aim of destabilising Russia. In this case, the allegations seem to have been tailored to justify the Russian-led intervention of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation in the country.

On 06 January, one day after the protests extended all over the country and became more violent, CSTO troops arrived to Kazakhstan, acting under the organization’s Article 4, which states: “In the case of aggression (an armed attack threatening safety, stability, territorial integrity and sovereignty) against any Member States, all other Member States at request of this Member State shall immediately provide the latter with the necessary aid, including military.” To further cement this narrative, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially portrayed the unrest as “externally provoked attempts at disrupting the security and integrity of the state through violent means, including trained and organised armed groups”. Four days later, Vladimir Putin described the events as a “colour revolution” and the use of “Maidan technologies”.

However, the narrative is not based on facts and contains many gaps and inconsistencies. In fact, there are more deep-rooted causes for the protests in a country that suffers from lack of democracy, corruption and economic difficulties despite being rich in economic resources. For example, Kazakhstan ranks 128 out of 167 countries in the 2020 Democracy Index, and also ranks 94 out of 180 countries in the 2020 Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

Disinfo: America pushes Belarus to war through the actions of Poland and Latvia

Belarus does not need any war. But it is the Americans who push Belarus to these actions through the hands of the Poles and the Latvians. Belarus used to provide security in the region and this fact has always been appreciated. Why are they now pushing Belarus to these actions and making aggressors out of Belarusians since 2020? Today, the West is threatening Belarus.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western attempts to organise a colour revolution in Belarus or destabilise this country. Poland, the Baltic states and the USA are presented here as countries with hostile and aggressive plans towards Belarus.

The claim that Poland, the Baltic states and the USA want to push Belarus to “war” is ungrounded. Poland is a neighbour of Belarus and it continues to support the Belarusian people. Poland respects the principles of international law and does not intervene in the domestic affairs of any country.

Disinfo: French people declare that Western policy towards Russia is a suicide

The French people talk about the West's "suicidal" policy towards Russia. The United States is dying and leading other Western countries to inevitable death, while its anti-Russian policy is also “suicidal”.

Disproof

Recurrent deceptive metonymy about US-European relations and Western-Russia relations.

An opinion of a consultant interviewed by a conservative media is being wrongly presented is a common attitude of the French society. Extending the opinion of one individual consultant to the whole French population is wrong and has been described as a manipulative technique. In reality, only 17% of the French population consider Russia as an ally while 53% consider the US as such (survey from Harris Interactive for MGH Partners (December 2021)).

Disinfo: Facebook violates freedom of speech by blocking Sputnik Arabic

Facebook is supposed to be a place for the exchange of various views until they do not violate the law. There should be no political censorship there. The blocking of Sputnik Arabic account is a violation of the right of the freedom of speech. It is an arbitrary decision on who has the right to express themselves through media and who does not. This behaviour of Facebook should be condemned.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that the West imposes censorship through its state institutions and private social media companies (such as Facebook and Twitter).

These claims seek to discredit Western mainstream media and Western liberal democracies.
