Bucharest is hatching the project of Greater Romania, which involves the absorption of Moldova, Transnistria and Chernivtsi and Odesa regions of Ukraine. Thus, the Romanian strategists hope to turn Romania into the leader of South-Eastern Europe with access to the Balkans and the Black Sea region with the spread of Romanian influence all the way to the Caspian Sea. The existence of the Transnistrian state spoils the whole picture for the Romanians. Greater Romania cannot move forward, because there is Transnistria and Russian peacekeepers on the Dniester. The displacement of Russian blue helmets from Transnistria is a top priority for Bucharest.
Zelenskyy gives away the port Yuzhne and the island of Mayskiy for naval bases of the USA and Britain. By the way, the planned naval bases will be Ukrainian in name only. In fact, Zelenskyy agreed to build fully-fledged foreign bases, bypassing the Ukrainian Constitution. Allegedly, neither British nor American naval bases will be located in Ukraine, but Ukrainian bases built with the involvement of foreign specialists.
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine and its relations with The West.
The article mocks and ironises the statements of the Ukrainian officials to discredit them and create an impression that British and American naval bases are going to be built. This is not true and has been clarified on several occasions.
Thus, in October, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will begin to build two naval bases to protect the Black Sea region. Later, the Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva commented on the question of the "creation of a British military naval base":
"Ukraine needs to create naval bases from scratch. I would like to emphasise that it is not a British naval base that will be located in Ukraine, but a Ukrainian base that will be built with the involvement of British specialists. We say that we need several modern naval bases. We must study the British experience, not repeat their mistakes. We have a different situation, not the same naval capabilities as in the UK, but we have two seas that need to be protected. We need one base on the Black Sea and one on the Azov Sea.”
Background:
A memorandum of intent between the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom on cooperation in developing and enhancing the capabilities of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was signed during an official visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Great Britain.
The document was signed on behalf of Ukraine by Defence Minister Andriy Taran. According to him, it is a question of supply of modern samples of military equipment and the newest high-precision armament, adjustment of production of separate types of military production in Ukraine, and also development of Navy bases.
